Public-space basketball courts of Antwerp
2008

Several of Antwerp’s squares, including the nearby Dageraadplaats, have basketball courts in their centres, with bars and restaurants in close juxtaposition, creating spaces for multiple leisure uses. Eight of these squares were photographed, and basketball nets and balls were installed in the gallery. The use of basketballs in the space also makes use of the gallery’s acoustics, which create loud echoes of any noise in the space. Posters in various languages advertising the gallery's use as a public basketball court were placed in the squares and nearby bars.

A walk around 8 of the squares was planned and produced as a map / guide which can be downloaded below; the walk avoids the centre of the city but instead visits several diverse neighbourhoods on its outskirts.
