Lucy Harrison was the 2016 Artist in Residence for the duration of ‘The Art of War’; the WW1 Recruitment Poster exhibition at Hackney Museum, and the Conscientious Objector exhibition at Hackney Archives. Lucy produced her own series of posters, which included extracts from local people’s letters and diaries during the war, and selected photographs and film from Hackney Archives to be displayed in the exhibition. She also worked with local schools and exhibition visitors to explore the themes within the exhibition, the global nature of the conflict and the relevance this has for the diverse communities living in the borough today. A limited edition poster was produced for the end of the project, including slogans contributed by exhibition visitors, schools and community groups, and distributed for free from Hackney libraries.
