Mariska (2006)

A slide projection using photographs of a children’s book (‘Mariska and the Indians’) bought at a second hand book stall in Breda, Holland. The book has been drawn in by a child who has made his marks of ownership- writing his own name twice on the first page as well as re-writing the title on the inside cover and colouring in the first letter of each chapter. The slide projection only shows these signs of the owner’s intervention along with selected illustrations: a journey on a boat across the Atlantic and encounters with the ‘Indians’ of the title.
